With Christmas almost upon us and stocking fillers required in time for the festive season, SMOK has just the answer for you, and in a size to fit! They say that the best things come in small packages, so their design team came up with this little gem.
It’s called the X Cube II Mini. More compact in size than the X Cube II as the name suggests, yes, but still loaded with similar features to satisfy even the most demanding vapers, which require only the very best in a mini box mod design that features variable wattage up to 75W and temperature control as well.
The X Cube II Mini includes Bluetooth 4.0 technology, a customizable LED to change the colour that best suits your taste, along with a further choice of four colour options to choose from, not including the colour options available from their range of protective skins.
The X Cube II Mini also houses the clear bright OLED display found in previous models which is completely sealed in order to prevent damage from accidental spillage of your E-Liquids.
They have upgraded the buttons on this model to making this part of the user interface just that little bit more tactile and durable. The X Cube II Mini keeps the familiar magnetic panel found on the larger X Cube II for quick and easy replacement of the single 18650 battery as well.
And with a host of useful features that includes Intelligent Coil Recognition, Adjustable Temperature Coefficient of Resistance, and Adjustable Initial Resistance in T.C mode, you are going to get great value for your money, or even better, as a Christmas present!
The X CUBE II Mini has been sent directly to me for review from SMOK TECH to evaluate both its performance and features.
The device arrived in a shrink-wrapped box that includes a picture of The X CUBE II Mini on the top with a silver sticker on the side denoting the products colour, code, and serial number. On the reverse side of the outer sleeve are a brief overview of the products functionality and a bar-code. Two other bar codes can be found on the outer sleeve, one for the Apple Store and the other for Google Play.
By removing this, you will find a black box with the silver SMOK logo printed on the top. Just lift off the cover to access the contents inside.
The SMOK X CUBE II Mini’s Contents include the following:
1 x X CUBE II Mini In a choice of either Stainless Steel, Black, Red, or White.
1 x Micro USB cable
1 x User Manual
1x Warranty Card (6 months from the date of purchase)
1x protective sleeve
The X Cube II Mini has four colour choices available to you, so be sure to check you have the correct one before purchasing your device and opening it. Also please verify the six month warranty period should this be included with the X Cube II before purchasing this device. This may differ depending on your location, but I believe it to be six months from the date of purchase.

Operation & Performance
For the purpose of conducting this review, I have used a selection of two different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG combinations from Von Vape and Essence E-Liquids.
If you intend to use this range of E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.
For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.
E-Liquids may contain diacetyl (DA) and acetyl propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.
People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils. Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.
You might find this range of calculators provided by Steam Engine particularly useful, so thank you to Lars for allowing me to include them in my reviews. These calculators are currently under development, and the information that they contain may change at any time without notice. Please read the How It Works section for a more in-depth understanding. And never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.
Potential Polycarbonate problems
It is well known that certain e-liquid ingredients can cause cracking or even melting of polycarbonate plastic or acrylic tanks and tubes. For further information on this subject, please check with your E-juice supplier or contact the manufacturer directly.
I have tested the SMOK X Cube II Mini full vaping range from 1watt all the way up to its maximum of 75 watts using the Goblin Mini and the SMOK TFV4 Mini, with the new and very extensive ranges of current and future coils from SMOKTECH. They have sent me their latest TF-STC2 SS dual coil 0.25Ω heads with recommended ranges from 350°F-550°F – 40W-70W. The X Cube II Mini has been thoroughly tested in both wattage mode and Temperature Control mode to detect any potential performance issues or dry burning issues. The model sent is a pre-production version (Sample, Not for Sale), so please take this into account when evaluating my comments in the conclusion.
The X Cube II Mini is built from a combination of Stainless Steel and Zinc Alloy, in four colour options. The top plate houses a firm spring loaded 510 connector pin with a neatly designed surrounding air channel for near flush mounting of the atomizer. This has been elevated to help improve airflow and also to minimise any visual damage being caused to the top plate by screwing your attached atomizer down onto the decking itself.
The clear bright OLED screen has been included from the previous model for easy viewing of the menu functions on the display. Situated just below the screen are the new and much improved + & – input buttons that allow you to modify the output values in wattage mode and temp mode, as well as switching between the six current menus available and their associated sub-menus.
SMOK have included the same very comfortable fire bar along the entire front side instead of a traditional fire button. With the same illuminated RGB LED strip seated just behind it, and offering you a choice of up to 16 million different colour configurations, the LED strip will also serve as a visual aid to notify you when the fire bar has been activated.
Situated on the side of the device is a removable magnetic battery cover with the SMOK logo printed on the top of the cover allowing for fast and easy access to the compartment which holds one 18650 battery (Not Supplied). Please, only use the recommended battery when using this device, and pay attention to the battery orientation sticker found inside.
The base incorporates a USB connector port for firmware upgrades and charging along with three lines of five venting holes for the battery.
To turn on the device insert one fully charged 18650 battery and push the fire bar five times in quick succession.
You will see the SMOK logo appear in the OLED display on the top of the device with TL 75 and the firmware version you are running (1.0.2), followed by the welcome message. The device is set to Temp mode initially and 200°F.
You can change to wattage mode if you require by pressing the fire bar three times in quick succession and selecting the second option that appears from the available six. Waiting for five seconds in this menu will display the sub menu for adjusting the ramp up time between Min, Soft, Normal, Hard, and Max, with a deviation of + & – 10% in both wattage and temperature modes.
This takes place within the first two seconds of activating the fire bar. In normal, the device will fire at the set Wattage or selected Temperature. This function will help to improve your overall vaping experience when using the X Cube II Mini.
An updated function for coil recognition has also been included with the X Cube II Mini. Pressing the fire bar when the device is turned on without an attached coil displays the message attach atomizer and the LED flashes RED.
When you attach the new atomizer, a message appears asking you if this is a new coil with the option to select either Yes Or No. Select Yes and the device will check the attached coils resistance value which will appear on the OLED screen. The X Cube II Mini will automatically check the attached coils resistance to monitor any detected fluctuations when in use.
The large OLED screen provides you with a full and very comprehensive display of the current settings and operational values. To access these six menus and sub menu options in order to modify any of these values, press the fire bar three times in quick succession.
Use the + or – buttons on the top of the device situated just below the OLED screen, to scroll up or down the six choices available. When you have reached the one you wish to make changes to wait five seconds and the functions inside will be displayed. Remember, there are also sub-menu structures too, so read the comprehensive manual that SMOK have included in order to get the very best from your device and a fuller understanding on how this particular one operates.
You will also find a list of helpful shortcuts inside the user manual to that will help improve the speed of operation in certain areas. For example, after pressing the fire bar three times in quick succession you can use the fire bar itself to scroll through the six available menu options and the subsequent sub-menus instead of using the plus or minus buttons to do so.
There are other shortcuts available to you which can found in the user manual as well.
With a reasonably extensive power range from 1 watt up to 75 watts, and firing down to 0.1 and up to 3 Ω’s the most styles of vaper appear to be catered for including the dedicated cloud chaser.
Temperature Control Mode has operating range between 200°F (100°C) and 600°F (315°C)
There are beneficial features that are included in this mode of operation to help improve your overall vaping experience. Intelligent Coil Recognition, Adjustable Temperature Coefficient of Resistance, and Adjustable Initial Resistance.
As temperature sensing coils tend to be sub-ohm, a poor contact between the 510 connector and the attached atomizer can create a false reading, in a way that is not evident when an atomizer is being used in variable wattage mode. This function is designed to ensure your resistance on the load remains constant, and it has an adjustable range between ±50 mΩ (± 0.05Ω).
The X Cube II Mini allows you to adjust TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) values for Nickel 200 between 0.004-0.008 Titanium and Stainless Steel coil heads can also be manually adjusted but will require an additional firmware upgrade, and of course, an increase in the devices price. This will help to improve the accuracy of the temperature and improve the overall flavour.
You can locate the coefficient settings in sub-menu below the Temp Min, Soft, Normal, Hard and Max with a preset default value of 0.00600 (0.00586 absolute) for Nickel wire. There is a further sub-menu to select between SC (single coil) or DC dual (coil) configurations.
Customers wishing to adjust the TCR for Titanium and Stainless Steel can do so by purchasing, downloading and installing this upgrade from SMOK’s mobile application. Please make sure you include the correct offset values for any other supported types of wire to avoid dry burning your cotton.
In the bluetooth menu, you can turn this function On or Off by using the +/- buttons situated on the top of the device. Connect your computer or mobile device using the USB connector located on the base of the device. Be sure to download the SMOK application that is compatible with Android 4.3 and iOS 7
Allows you the choice to vape in either Wattage Mode Temp Mode.
There is also an option to modify the ramp up times within the first two seconds of activating the fire bar via the first menu. You are presented with five choices. Min, Soft, Normal, Hard and Max in either Mode Temp Mode.
Normal mode will fire the device at the set wattage or temperature value that you have pre-determined. Example: Output value is set to 10w. In Normal mode, the device will fire at 10w. In Soft mode, the device will fire from 9w and up to the preset 10w within a two-second time frame after activating the fire bar. In Hard mode, the device will fire at 11w and down to the preset 10w within the two seconds from activating the fire bar.
In Temp mode, you can select between a further three sub-menus.
Sub-menu 1. Select between Ti, SS, or Ni depending on the type of wire you are using.
Sub-menu 2. Adjust the preset coefficient value of the attached wire.
Sub-menu 3. Select either Single or Dual coil configurations.
Adjustment of the LED can be set from this menu.
Using the +/- buttons gives you access to a selection of other options that include: A. R.G.B adjustment B. Jump C. Shade and D. Close mode.
More information on these adjustments can be found using the link I have provided above.
Includes a puff counter where you can set the limit of puffs that you think you will require to best suit your vaping habit!
It is preset to 0 (Never) and by using the +/- buttons you have the option to adjust it to a value of your choice.
In the settings menu and Includes adjustments for A. Screen time B. Contrast settings. C. Screen orientation. D. Date & time settings and E. Adjust for the initial Ohms setting with a pre-set factory default of 0.000Ω.
Allows you to turn off the device from here, displaying the SMOK logo along with a Goodbye message. To turn the device back on again press the fire bar five times in quick succession.
The SMOK X Cube II Mini also has a built in locking feature that can be turned on or off by pressing the fire button five times in quick succession to prevent you from accidentally firing your device.
As I mentioned to you earlier, most of the information provided here is similar in nature to my original review of the 160W, larger and more powerful X Cube II.
Reduced in size but not performance, the X Cube II Mini will quickly grab the attention of many hardened fans of SMOK’s incredible line up of already very popular and reliable vaping products, and get the attention of some new customers along the way.
After using the X Cube II Mini over the past week and matching it up against the original X Cube II, you cannot fail to be impressed.
A great design with a solid feel that includes a rich feature set which is backed up by SMOK’s reliable performance record. The buttons are more pronounced than on the previous model but suffers from a greater degree of rattle on my pre-production version. This is one area that they have not addressed to date which is a shame given that the rest of its design is so sturdy and well balanced. I have mentioned this minor problem before, so I hope it will be for the last time!
The fire bar can be accidently activated when holding the device in your hand. I would suggest making good use of the locking function to avoid this happening when the device is switched on but not in use, especially if you are going to put it in your pocket or leave it somewhere out of your sight for any period of time.
I’m a little confused as to why you have to purchase the upgrade for SS and Ti? Just include it in the price and charge more for it, it’s far easier for all concerned, including SMOK.
Overall performance was excellent, in both TC & VW modes with more than adequate vapour production and flavour being produced, so no disappointments at all here either. Remember to add plenty of organic cotton when using their RBA setup to avoid potential leakage issues.
With a choice of four colour schemes to choose from, plus the additional coloured skins you are going to be spoilt for choice in this area too. Their new Clapton coils are simply awesome and will add to the ever increasing choice on offer from SMOK to their loyal fans around the globe. It truly is a gem to behold, and as I said at the start of this review, definitely one worth considering for this year’s Christmas stocking.
R.R.P £60.00 $85.00 although I have seen it advertised far cheaper than this.
