The latest starter kit from SMOK has been causing quite a stir since its recent release and I have been receiving requests for an early review of it so here it comes with a few surprises in store, even for me!
Nothing special you might think about a starter kit bearing in mind I have their Alien kit plus the new G-Priv 220W in line for review so I wondered what all the fuss was about, after all, it’s just a vape pen, right?
Wrong, very wrong. This is a wolf dressed up as a lamb with one hell of a bite to it as you will find out shortly.
The Vape Pen 22 comes in a choice of two colour options. Silver and Black with a detachable tank that can be disassembled and re- assembled with ease for cleaning and changing the coil and connects to a 1650mAh battery via the 510 connector.
With a five click On-Off switch and the inclusion of a micro USB port for charging the battery plus two air slots, and a uniquely designed detachable tank it sounds just like any other pen styled device. But like I said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye!
The Vape Pen comes in a sealed Orange box that includes the following:
VAPE PEN 22 In Either Silver or Black Liveries.
0.3Ω Dual Core (Pre-installed)
0.3Ω Dual Core (Spare Coil)
USB Cable for Charging
Material: Stainless Steel
Size: 22mm Width 105mm Height 90g Weight
Battery Capacity: 1650mAh
Connector Type: 510
Micro USB Charge Port
For the purpose of conducting this review, I have used a selection of different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG combinations including an 87%VG 13%PG from Five Fold Vapor and a 70%VG 30%PG from Dark Market. For customers within the UK these E-Liquid can now be purchased online here.
E-Liquids may contain Diacetyl (DA) and acetyl Propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.
People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils.
Once Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.
Please make sure you are using the supplied charging cable for this device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.
Simple and very straight forward as you would expect from a pen styled device. Assemble the tank by following the instructions found inside the user manual, add your preferred choice of E-liquid remembering to prime the coil thoroughly in order to avoid burning the cotton, press the fire buttons five times in quick succession and be amazed. Why?
A pen styled device supporting sub ohm vaping that handles 87%VG liquids with absolutely no wicking issues at all, giving you superb flavour into the bargain, and it does! Plus, huge dense clouds that you would only expect to find on a device that pushes out over 80 watts of power!
Truly, the Vape Pen 22 from SMOK is a must have device no matter what level of vaper you happen to be. Cloud production has to be seen to be believed from a pen kit and the flavour beats anything in its class and many above it so this little gem really does punch well above its weight.
I said in a review more than a year ago now that SMOK TECH was the rapidly emerging front runner from China, and after a string of recent successful releases including this one I stand by what I said and they have not let me down.
The tank includes a wide bore Delrin drip tip and has been cleverly designed to allow for easy maintenance and replacement of the coil heads. Remember to prime these 0.3ohm coils well to avoid dry burning them when they are first installed.
The 510 connector allows for a flush mount of the tank and like all working parts of a SMOK design it’s very well made when you consider that they are mass produced and this one will need to be I’m sure!
There are two evenly spaced air slots placed below the tank drawing plenty of air up into the tank. A point worth remembering is if you should accidently unseat the coil head from the base with E-liquid inside the tank then the remaining juice will flow out of the slots, so be careful.
The intelligent battery indicator gives clear prompts as to the current status of the battery. The battery life indicator blinks 4 times each time you take a puff. When it blinks rapidly (15 times in quick succession) it indicates that the voltage is lower than 3.3V and will require you to charge it again.
The Vape Pen 22 also has a number of built-in safety functions in its design which includes: 8 seconds protection, low resistance protection, short circuit protection, and low voltage protection.
The charging port is solid but once again take care to insert the cable correctly and do not apply too much pressure making sure it is attached straight and not from an angled approach which should help to avoid it becoming damaged malfunctioning prematurely. On future versions, it would be nice to see the charge status indicator positioned above the port instead of below it.
Flavour and vapour production are on point for sure with the Vape Pen 22 and this is what make this such an impressive device.
Expected price range is around the $30.00 mark and £26.00 respectively, so, it’s a steal for any new or advanced vaper looking for a backup device so be sure to check with you local B&M for a price or a reputable online store.
