Sleek and unique with a lock and load style battery compartment, the latest offering from SMOK stands tall in the crowd of mini mods. Well, just a bit anyway!
The G80 has been designed with a more slender and elegant appearance compared to the Q Box’s more chunky style, with an increase in power up to and including 80W.
It’s light and most definitely portable so again SMOK has added to an already growing list of feature rich box mods when space is a priority, without compromising on performance.
So, let’s take a closer look as the devil is always in the detail!

Tools Of The Trade & Safety Information
People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils. Seek professional medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.
In this review, I have used yet another selection of E-Liquids from the Mighty Vapors Rich Collection.
Bang For Your Buck
Slim, Stylish and compact The G80 comes with many of the features found in the larger SMOK devices, including all the safety features that we have come to expect from a Company offering quality products at affordable prices and always with their consumers wellbeing in mind.
Both the power button and combined up and down switch with two pronounced nodules for easy identification have been placed on the right-hand side of the OLED screen
And, access to the battery compartment has been transformed in this model for even quicker access allowing you to quickly change the recommended single 18650 battery.
The user can choose to vape in Variable Wattage Mode from 1W up to a maximum of 80W or, Temperature Controlled Mode (between a Temperature range of: 200 – 600°F |100 – 315°C) depending on your preferred method of vaping.
The user interface is smaller than those found in recent releases but none the less well laid out thanks to the latest chip technology giving the user easy access to all the menu and submenu structures including, Variable Wattage Mode and Temperature Controlled Mode in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, with the ability to pre select the type of wire whether it be Ni 200, Ti or SS.
Press the power switch five times in quick succession to turn the device on and a further three clicks once the device has been activated to gain access to the top menu structure (Mode, Puff, Setting and Power).
One press of the power button cycles through the available options to you and by holding the power switch in for a little over one second gives you access to that menu and any of its underlying sub-menus.
You can make all the necessary adjustments to fine tune each of the individual settings by using the combined plus and minus switch positioned just below it.
By selecting Power from the top tier menu, you will be able to turn the device off.
For a more in-depth view of the G80 Kit and its features, please consult the included user manual.
Unscrew the top cap just below the drip tip and fill the 2ml tank with your chosen E-Liquid filling it through either of the two slots, taking care not to accidentally pour any into the central airflow tube.
Replace the top cap and allow the E-Liquid to soak into the Japanese organic cotton for a few minutes prior to use.
Replacement of the coil heads is achieved by unscrewing the base and turning the coil head itself in a counterclockwise motion. Replace the coil and turn it in a clockwise motion to secure it back into place.
Also, make sure you have opened the fully adjustable airflow intakes situated at the base of the tank to allow the air to circulate around the coils.
If you have not already done so, attach the Spirals tank to the G80 battery via the 510 threading and select the recommended wattage suggested by SMOK for the type of coil you have inserted.
Once you have attached the tank to the main body of the G80 (battery) via the 510 connector, the intelligent firmware will automatically detect that a new coil has been attached and will ask you to confirm this by selecting Yes on the OLED display.
Classy in appearance and hot on both performance and flavour, this combination should suit the flavour chaser rather than the cloud enthusiast.
Offering a full suite of advanced options for fine tuning your personal setups whether it be in variable wattage mode or in temperature control mode, the G80 has pretty much everything the experienced vaper should require.
The OLED screen is small when compared to the likes of the recently released Q BOX or, the AL85, but thanks to a bright and well laid out interface it’s very easy to keep track of each one of the many parameters on its display.
The battery housing with its quick and easy lock and load system speeds up the process of changing the battery which you will have to do fairly frequently if you opt for using it for cloud chasing.
And finally, the Spirals Flavour Tank
The Spirals Flavour Tank will look good on anyone of SMOK’s mini box mods for sure and that includes their new G80.
With a 2ml tank capacity you clearly do not wish to leave home without a spare bottle of your favourite juice! That said unless you are a heavy vapour or cloud chaser, which this tank is clearly not designed for, it should last you all day with a couple of timely refills.
Even though the design of this tank is small the coil heads themselves have a large diameter allowing for an increase in the amount of organic cotton to be stored inside them.
And coupled with the large and plentiful juice ports, and a dynamic bottom airflow system, I have not experienced any wicking issues but an abundance of flavour instead.
This is a box mod that has a maximum output of 80W with only room for one 18650mAh battery and an attached Sub-Ohm tank that uses 0.4Ω or, 0.6Ω coil heads.
Clearly, this isn’t going to be sufficient for long periods of vaping at the higher settings so I would suggest vaping it at the lower end of the recommended ranges suggested by SMOK for these coils resistance values, in order to increase your overall vape time.
SMOK have retained the top filling system which is a much cleaner and quicker way to refill the 2ml tank. One small point here is to make sure you turn the stainless-steel section immediately below the drip tip to avoid removing the drip tip instead. There is little room for error and I would recommend a larger purchase area on future models.
And The Down Right Ugly
It’s yet another fine example of a compact vaping kit from SMOK so I have nothing to report on the G8 Kit in this section.
