SMOK seems to have the bit between their teeth lately by designing products that are both original in design concept, functional, reliable and must be seen with vaping accessories. So it should come as no surprise to both you and me that hot on the heels of the release of the X Cube II is another cool looking variable wattage TC device called the Koopor Mini.

More compact in its design than the X Cube II as the name suggests yes but still loaded with similar features to satisfy even the most demanding vapers who require only the very best in a mini box mod, and at a very respectful price too. This is a real little gem.

SMOK carries some weight in the vaping industry and so does this little gem but not overly so. The ergonomically designed Koopor Mini is constructed from Steel & Zinc Alloy with a flush mounting spring loaded 510 connector that is truly a joy to behold.

It also incorporates, just like its big brother, a magnetic plate on the reverse side allowing easy access to the battery compartment and a comfortably sized, all be it slightly smaller, OLED screen that displays all the information you require clearly and intuitively.

SMOK have also bought the Koopor Mini out in an all black finish too with a choice of coloured skins, Orange & Black. And just to give you some idea of how much attention to detail Smok’s R&D team applies to each one of their original designs, on the battery housing plate there are 40 vent holes. When you place the skin over the device everyone lines up correctly, including the screen, three buttons, mini USB connector on the base and eight additional vent holes on the bottom of the device too!

Interested? Let’s see what you can expect to get for your hard earned money.

The Koopor Mini has been sent directly to me for review from SMOKTECH to evaluate its performance and features before its official release. Please accept my apologies for not getting this review out on time as I try to do, as I was on vacation when it arrived.

The device comes in a shrink-wrapped Orange & White Sleeve that includes a picture of the Koopor Mini on the front with a product description on the rear. Inside you will find an Orange & White box that contains the device with a printed circuit board logo on the front and back covers. A barcode sticker can be found on the top that includes a reference code, serial number and a scratch to reveal the authentication on the bottom part of the a barcode label.

You will notice on the right-hand side at the very top the word Open. Simply slide out the cover just like opening a drawer to reveal the Koopor Mini inside. Underneath the foam, housing is a user manual plus your customer card. Please take the time to read both of these documents carefully before use.

The Koopor Mini Contents include the following:
1 x Koopor Mini In Silver or Black
1 x Orange Silicon Cover (Silver) Black Silicon Cover for the Black version
1 x User Manual
1 x Warranty Card
1 x Gift Box

The Koopor Mini arrives in a choice of two colour options, Black (New) & Stainless Steel.  So be sure to check you have the correct one before purchasing your device and opening it. Also please verify the six month warranty period should this be included with the X Cube II before purchasing this device. This might differ depending on your location, but I believe it to be six months from the date of purchase.

Operation & Performance

For the purpose of conducting this review, I have used a selection of two different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG combinations from Ripe Vapes and Monarch.

If you are already a supplier or intend to supply this range of E-Liquids, please make sure that they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.

REACH compliant

If you intend to use this range of E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.
For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.

E-Liquids may contain diacetyl (DA) and acetyl propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.

People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils. Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.

You might find this range of calculators provided by Steam Engine particularly useful, so thank you to Lars for allowing me to include them in my reviews. These calculators are currently under development, and the information that they contain may change at any time without notice. Please read the How It Works section for a more in-depth understanding. And never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.

Potential Polycarbonate problems

It is well known that certain e-liquid ingredients can cause cracking or even melting of polycarbonate plastic or acrylic tanks and tubes. For further information on this subject, please check with your E-juice supplier or contact the manufacturer directly.

I have tested the Koopor Mini’s vaping range from 6 watt’s (not 1w) all the way up to its maximum of 60 watt’s using the new SMOK TFV4 including the single coil RBA setup plus the SMOK Gimlet Cloud Tank NI 200. Some of the extensive ranges of new coils designed for the TFV4 have also been used during the course of this review. The Koopor Mini has been thoroughly tested in Temperature Control mode as well, for both performance and any potential dry burning issues. (Please be sure to set the correct coefficient value to avoid this happening)

In addition to this, I have been using the Koopor Mini continuously over the past two weeks to test the functionality of this device as thoroughly as possible and to gauge its overall performance. The model sent is a pre-production version (Sample, Not for Sale), so please take this into account when evaluating my comments in the conclusion.

The Koopor Mini is built from a combination of Stainless Steel, Zinc Alloy. The top plate houses a firm spring loaded 510 connector pin with a neatly designed surrounding air channel for flush mounting of the atomizer.

A clear bright OLED screen has been included for easy viewing of the menu and current operating settings on the display.

Above the OLED screen is the fire button, and situated just below the screen are the + & –  input buttons for switching between the eight current modes of operation allowing for easy adjustment of the individual values inside each one.

Situated on the reverse side is a removable magnetic battery cover with the Mini logo printed on the top of the cover and an Open Logo with an arrow on the bottom below the vent holes allowing fast and easy access to the compartment that holds one 18650 battery inside (Not Supplied).

The base includes a Bluetooth 4.0 mini USB connector port for firmware upgrades (Not Charging) along with three additional lines of venting holes for the battery.

To turn the device on insert one fully charged 18650 battery and push the fire button five times in quick succession. You will see the welcome logo appear in the OLED display followed by Koopor and then KP60. A message on the OLED screen New Coil Up Same Down will appear after attaching your atomizer of choice. Please remember this when changing over atomizers.

When using a new atomizer press up (+ Button) and for the same coil down (- minus button). The Koopor Mini will automatically check the attached coils resistance in order to regulate the temperature of the heating coil.

The clear OLED screen provides you with a full and very comprehensive display of the current settings and values for each one of eight adjustable menus.

In order to adjust the current values of these settings press the fire button three times in quick succession to gain access to these eight available menu options that are currently available to you, and then use either the + or – buttons on the top of the device to scroll in both directions to locate the desired menu that you are looking to adjust.

Another very nice feature that has been included in this model, as well as the X Cube II, is the option to change the ramp up time between normal, hard and soft with a deviation of + & – 10% in both wattage and temperature modes that has been pre-set by the user. This takes place within the first two seconds of activating the fire button. In normal, the device will fire at the set Wattage or Temperature value that will help to improve your overall vaping experience when using this device.

The Koopor mini also includes a very useful locking feature that works in VW and Temp Control modes eliminating this possibility of you accidently changing your pre-determined values by holding down the +&- buttons simultaneously. Five presses of the fire button will lock the device itself.

You will also find a list of shortcuts inside the user manual that will help you access some of the devices features more quickly too. For example, after pressing the fire button three times in quick succession you can use the fire button to scroll through the eight different menu options instead of using the plus or minus buttons to do so.

There are other customizable options available to use in the downloadable software application from SMOK’s website.

Wattage Mode

With a reasonably extensive range by today’s standards of 1 watt all the way up to 60 watts in Resistances of VW Mode: 0.1Ω-3Ω there should be enough power to cater for the vaping requirements of most of us.

Adjustments in VW mode are made in increments of 0.1 by holding down either the + or – buttons. In order to reach much higher or lower values from the one currently selected just keep either the + or – buttons pressed down and the incremental speed will increase.

Temperature Mode

Temperature Control Mode has an adjustable range between 200°F (100°C) and 600°F (315.5°C) You also have the facility to adjust the coefficient values in the menu options.

There is also an adjustable coefficient settings menu where you can select between Nickel and Titanium with a preset value of 0.00600 (0.00586 absolute) for Nickel wire. The correct value for Titanium is 0.0038 per degree C

Adjustments in Temperature Control mode are made increments of 0.5

When you use the Koopor Mini in temperature control mode you will not be permitted to adjust the wattage values as you can with some other devices. So I suggest selecting your desired wattage value first and then switching the device into temperature control mode in order to do so.

A full description of the menu functionality can be obtained by reading the supplied user manual. I strongly recommend you do so prior to use.

If some of you found the X Cube II’s feature set a little too complicated for your personal vaping requirements, or indeed its overall dimensions too large for your hand  (Designed with the experienced & serious Vaper in mind) then SMOK has you completely covered with this model.

The Koopor Mini gives the vast majority of us all the power and features we will ever need to use on a daily basis, whether it’s going to be used in variable wattage mode or as a Temperature Controlled device in a very neat package that appears outwardly, to be designed to last and stand up to the daily rigours that life has to offer.

Flush mounting of all tanks with a solid and reliable connection has been achieved during the course of this review and suitable airflow around the base allows for use with atomizers that do not incorporate a built-in airflow control system.

Placement of the user interface “OLED Buttons” is well laid out and comfortable to operate, although I noticed a slight rattle with the fire button on this model. This is significantly reduced when the battery is inserted and disappears completely when the skin is covering the device, which is how I tend to use it.

Unlike the XCube II you cannot round robin in Menu mode which I hope SMOK will address in the next firmware upgrade as It makes daily operation just that little bit quicker. Also, the two second display time should be preset to four seconds to all you more time to read the displayed information.

The option to round robin in VW and Temp Control is not allowed either although the speed that it cycles between 1 and 60 watts, for example, is extremely quick so this is not really a problem as such but something to bear in mind.

I am rapidly becoming an avid fan of SMOK’s designs as they just seem to take on board what the vaping community requires and produce outstanding products of exceptional quality that simply work and at a price that will suit most people’s pockets.

If you happen to have a preference for the all wooden style of box mod rather than the all stainless steel versions, then surprise surprise, SMOK has just released one that I hope its performance will match its looks.

RRP £50.00 $70.00 I have seen cheaper prices advertised online. Please check that you are purchasing an authentic SMOK device before parting with your money!
