With vapers asking for more compact and portable devices, with a top quality performance that can deliver a near perfect vaping experience, at an affordable price, somebody had to produce something magical out of the hat and it appears to be the NEBOX Starter Kit.

And it’s not just N E box either! This latest eye-catching and compact design from Kanger can hold up to 10ml of E-Liquid internally, house an 18650 battery, and is classed as the first fully integrated mod and tank design on the market today. Very convenient!

The NEBOX is most definitely unique, sleek, and very original. With temperature control included and up to 60w of adjustable power, this should start to get your attention very quickly indeed. Oh, and did I forget to mention? a mini RBA (0.5ohm) section plus and a pre-installed Ni200 coil for temperature controlled vaping straight out of the box.

At first glance, you will fall in love with this box mod very quickly, especially in its red livery.

There are currently four colour options available to you. RED, WHITE, BLUE and BLACK. Hopefully, a Limited Edition Kanger Green might also appear sometime soon along with a version in Orange.

Function & Performance

I have used a selection of different flavours supplied by Essence E-Liquids, and Von Vape E-Liquids during this review.

REACH compliant

If you intend to use this range of E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.
For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.

E-Liquids may contain diacetyl (DA) and acetyl propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.

People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils. Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.

You might find this range of calculators provided by Steam Engine particularly useful, so thank you to Lars for allowing me to include them in my reviews. These calculators are currently under development, and the information that they contain may change at any time without notice. Please read the How It Works section for a more in-depth understanding. And never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.

Here is an overview of the operation and functionality of the NEBOX. A more in-depth look is provided by viewing the included User Manual.

Operating the NEBOX

Remove the screw on the base of the unit to insert the battery (magnetic battery housing I hope on future releases) placing the recommended 18650 battery inside making sure it’s inserted the right way round! (Positive at the top+ Negative at the bottom -)
You might find the spring a little stiff to start with when changing your battery but it does loosen up.

Unscrew the E-liquid housing on the left-hand side of the base (next to the battery compartment) to gain access and fill the enclosed 10ml tank. You will see that the housing for the coil and RBA section is attached to the screw itself. To remove or replace an attached coil just turn it in a counter-clockwise motion.

Remember to prime your coil before inserting it back into the tank, before using it to avoid the possibility of a dry hit. You can swap out the O.C.C coil for the included RBA section quite quickly if you wish to buy unscrewing the attached coil from the base and replacing it with the RBA section.

In the off position with a battery inserted, and by pressing and holding the plus + and minus – buttons at the same time, you can access the Menu settings.

By pressing the fire button in this mode, you can scroll through the six detailed options and settings available to you which are fully explained in the user manual to set your preferred choice of operation, be it VW or TC. You also have the ability to change the screens orientation as well.

To turn the NEBOX ON or OFF press the fire button five times in quick succession. The screen displays the word Kangertech followed by a well laid out and easy to read list of the NeBox’s current parameters. These include a battery charge indicator, current wattage, temperature, voltage and Ohms. Depending on whether you are in VW or TC mode the displayed information will be reflected. In wattage mode, you will see T off displayed on the bottom left-hand side of the screen.

In the ON mode to access the menu and change the settings simply press the fire button three times in quick succession. Once set toggle through the menu until you reach the EXIT.

The NEBOX also allows you to lock in the settings to avoid accidentally changing them. Press the fire, plus + and minus – buttons together to activate. You can still vape but you will not be allowed change the preset values until you unlock the device by performing the same action again.

Overall the incredibly stylish and portable NEBOX has performed extremely well, bearing in mind that this is Kangers first attempt at a Temperature Controlled Device. Aimed at the mainstream vaper as always and trying to keep some of the complexities associated with TC devices to a minimum it would appear they have done a really magnificent job.

As I mentioned at the start of this review, it was designed to be the ultimate portable device that has required their R&D team to come up with a totally new and innovative concept that differed from the current style of box mods.

One of the main achievements in this design was to reduce the overall size by incorporating the tank inside the device itself with a capacity for up to 10ml of E-Liquid. A window is situated on the left-hand side to monitor the amount of liquid inside the tank. They also recommend charging the device on its side rather than standing upright to avoid the possibility of leaking which it does! I have noticed this happening when the temperature increases even while vaping on occasions. To further reduce the possibility of this happening I have added some denser cotton (more absorbent) which has made a considerable difference.

In order to clean the tank thoroughly, a new plastic cover has been designed to stop water getting into the device itself. To see how this works follow this link to the Kanger demo video.

The operation of the NEBOX, as we have come to know from previous models from Kanger, is relatively simplistic and very straight forward. The OLED screen is clear and bright with a well laid out menu structure that is easy to navigate around.  A helpful manual is included that has useful diagrams and instructions to help you get the best from this device. There is also a useful E-Liquid table included too.

Flavour representation, thanks to the Organic Cotton Coils and RBA section are what we have come to expect since their introduction. Vapour production was on point as well. As you do not have the ability to adjust the draw characteristics Kanger have set this to be more on the airier side, so bear this in mind before you purchase it if you are a mouth to lung vaper.

You can also add a standard 510 drip tip with slipstreaming capabilities to increase the already ample airflow, and cool the vapour at the higher temperature ranges.

Kanger has just released Clapton coils in resistances of 0.5Ω and 1.2Ω with outputs from 18W to 70W which will be an added bonus to the options currently available so keep an eye out for these. Vaping in Temperature control mode provided a smooth flavoursome vape with excellent vapour production. This is a new area for Kanger and they appear to have got this part right by keeping it simple and straight for people who are new to T.C devices.

There were only three things that I could see that needed some attention to improve an already exceptional simplistic and functional design.

1. A magnetic replacement for the battery compartment. This could be very easily achieved. I would also like to see a better improvement to reduce the possibility of leaking E-liquids as I have noticed this occurring when the device gets warm.

2. You do not have the facility to round robin in the menu screen. A small point I know, but one that will improve the speed of operation in future designs.

3. And finally, a version In Kanger Green. With a black top section and base already available, I’m surprised that Kanger missed the opportunity to display their Company colours. Let’s see what happens next, you never know!

This will be without doubt an excellent choice for vapers looking for a portable device that holds up to 10ml of E-Liquid and should offer you a fantastic vaping experience. I have not experienced any leaking apart from vaping at higher temperatures during this review but as I have already mentioned, to help avoid the possibility of this happening, add some additional (denser) cotton into the coil. You can use a whole punch to cut the cotton then gently push it inside the supplied coils with something as simple as a tooth pick. It works!

Expected price range appears to be around the £60.00 or $80.00 mark.
