Smok TFV4

Smok TFV4

Even more amazing design concepts have started to arrive for review from the R&D team at SMOK, who somehow always seem able to produce products that are ahead of the game and none more so than the introduction of this multipurpose high-performance tank that seems set to dominate the market over the coming months ahead.

The introduction of the TFV4 Sub Ohm tank has even left me stunned, not just because of its innovative design and build quality, but the vast choice of coil options that are going to be made available for it, sporting no less than eleven types of coil head configurations that include not just one, but two RBA setups as well, in both single and dual-coil options.

Current:
TCT-N2 CORE (0.15Ω)
TF-T3  TRIPLE CORE
TF-Q4  QUADRUPLE CORE
TF-R1  RBA SINGLE CORE (0.85Ω)
TF-R2  RBA DUAL CORE (0.25Ω)
TF-N2 STANDARD NICKEL 200 DUAL CORE (0.02Ω-0.12Ω 420°F-600 °F)
TF-N2 NICKEL 200 AIR CORE (0.12Ω-0.02Ω 420°F-600 °F)
TF-T2 STANDARD CORE (Dual Coil Head-1.5Ω 20-45W)
TF-T2 AIR CORE (WITH TWO ADDITIONAL AIR HOLES) (1.5Ω 20W-45W)
TF-TI TITANIUM CORE (DUAL COIL HEAD 0.33Ω 450°F-600°F
TF-56 SEXTUPLE CORE (0.4Ω 30W-100W)
TF-R1-V VERTICAL RBA SINGLE CORE

Ni 200 coils are designed specifically for use with devices that are capable of controlling coil temperature, as the DNA 40. Please, under no circumstances use this product with any other type of device than the ones recommended by SMOK  for fear of your battery venting on you. When using the RBA section use plenty of organic cotton to avoid potential leakage issues.

There is a marked difference between the standard Core and the new air core too.
Inside the Standard Core, all of the airflow will pass through the heated coils to produce a much warmer vapour.

However, the air core system with increased amounts of air holes will allow some of the air to bypass the heated coils allowing for a mix of both warm air (Heated) and cooler air (Bypassed) to mix together.

This will afford the user a far better vaping experience, particularly at higher temperature settings, producing what I hope will be a more flavoursome vape and reduced heating of the mouthpiece.

The release of the latest Sub Ohm TFV4 has been aimed to coincide with the release of the equally impressive X Cube II 160w TCD that can comfortably support all the configurations above that this beauty has to offer the experienced vaper.

Performance

I have used a selection of two different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG mixtures from Space Jam, and LongHorn Vapors Psycho E-Liquids, plus two devices for the purpose of testing the Smok TFV4 during this review which includes the X Cube II and Koopor Mini.

REACH compliant

If you intend to use this range of E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.

For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.

E-Liquids may contain diacetyl (DA) and acetyl propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.

People can also suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils.

Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.

And never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery if one is required for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.

The first unique feature you will come across with the TFV4 is a redesigned 510 drip tip that now includes an outer wall (Heat Shield) to reduce the risk of burning your lips when the metal heats up at high vaping temperatures.

Seated below the drip tip is an adjustable air intake slot that we have become familiar with on Smok’s recent tank designs, helping to provide additional cooling of the heated vapour (Slip Streaming) before entering the mouthpiece. The bore size of this will be better suited and clearly aimed at the cloud enthusiasts because of its larger diameter, helping to encourage a direct lung hit rather than a mouth to lung hit.

Quick and easy filling of the 5ml tank is delivered through yet another brilliant and well thought out piece of engineering allowing you to fill the TFV4 from the top with one smooth anticlockwise motion. Simply hold the tank in your left hand and press down on the top of the tank. (See Arrow On Top → Open) Using a counter-clockwise motion (half way) to gain access to the filling hole placed just to the side of the central airflow tube. Make sure you DO NOT pour your E-Liquid into the central airflow tube in error.

The main body of the tank is a 100% Stainless Steel Design that incorporates Pyrex glass holding up to a maximum 5ml of E-liquid, which should be more than sufficient capacity for most users. Unlike other tanks using a similar design the Pyrex glass sits inside the stainless steel housing and is secured by the use of O-rings, allowing for both the top or bottom half to be removed with a simple twist and pull action.

Another new feature that has been designed to maximise the airflow and situated at the base of the TFV4 is the inclusion of four large diameter and equally spaced air intake slots, positioned beneath a rotating control ring that opens and closes each intake in equal amounts. This is very smooth to operate and functions very well indeed, producing a wider choice of draw options for the user.

Removing the base cap gives you access to the coil well where you will find a T3 Triple Coil (0.2Ω) already installed. Removing and replacing the coil heads only requires a simple counter-clockwise turn to release the threading from the base unit.

Please remember not to over tighten the coil head back into the well and always prime both the coils and the Japanese organic cotton through the three slots positioned on the side before filling and using your TFV4 tank.

RBA Section

The RBA section will allow for both Single (TFR1) and Dual Coil (TFR2) configurations and comes with a single (TRF1) RBA and a 0.85 Ω coil pre-installed.

Peak insulation has been included beneath an open, and easily accessible deck given its relatively small size. The posts can be comfortably accessed on both sides for attaching your coils, with two small Philip screw heads used to secure the single or dual coil in place above the centre air flow tube.

The flow of air comes from four intake holes situated at the bottom of the RBA and, in turn, line up with the four outer air intake slots on the base unit itself to produce more than sufficient airflow and air intake adjustment around the coil/ coils.

The quality here once again speaks volumes concerning the attention to detail in its design and superb performance, given its size.

Conclusion

I mentioned in the TCT review that Smok had made this tank to very high and exacting standards. Well, they have just surpassed it with this current version.

All moving parts including the opening of the top cap for filling, replacing the coil heads and taking the tank apart for the purpose of cleaning is a very straightforward, smooth and painless procedure. Likewise, the RBA section is a flawless performer as well with easy access to the deck for building, based on a very well thought out and implemented design.

Wicking of the E-liquids used in this review caused some problems  using the Tri coil or RBA configurations, but still produced huge clouds as you might expect and a far better-flavoured vape when compared to similar models currently available. I did start to experience some dry hitting above 50W with continuous use so please be aware of this.

As I mentioned previously, when you are using the RBA section use plenty of organic cotton in order to avoid any potential leaking issues. Initially, I found that with not enough cotton there was a certain amount leaking in this configuration, but it appears to be ok now. Alo, be aware that the tank will leak if you remove it and lay it down on its side without closing off the air slots.

The tank capacity could see an increase in size from its current 5ml limit to a larger version that holds 6-7ml as the TFV4 is clearly aimed at the low sub ohm vaper and a consideration for any future updates to this model.

So it would appear that after completing the review on the TFV4 over the last three weeks that it is set to become one of the most prized and sort after tanks on the market today, thanks to its rock solid design, features, coil options and overall outstanding performance.

Expected price for the TFV4 is to be around £35.00 – $49.00 respectively.

  2. Ten minutes after I started using this tank it leaked all over. It would not come apart like the directions indicate. This is the last SMOK product I will ever buy. My m80 lasted 3 months then quit charging. Quality control sucks.

    • So this is obviously the fault of the tank and not user error? I own 2, and have been using them for months. The only time they’ve leaked is when I’ve not tightened something up correctly.

    • I agree with you. I had the same issue the first coil came with the unit is defected start leaking all over and I lost 2 bottle of liquid and I had liquid all over my cloths very bad quality product and don’t care what people say about the flavor SMOK is horrible product

      • Look at your coil. see if the black rubber seal is wrapped with threads sticking out. If so with an eye glass repair kit push threads in all the way to side Now set coil on flat surface and push down with your thumb. Hard enough that you will see no exposed threads and the seal is no longer warped. this is a common problem I come across with IPV4&IPV8 Smok coils. Good luck.

  3. I’ve been using the TVF4 for only about a week, after using an Aspire Mini-Nautilus and Atlantis for a few months.

While the TVF4 certainly delivers both huge clouds and great flavor as mentioned in the reviews, the one warning I’d add to those reviews, especially for new users, is that the first few hits you take on the TVF4 should be done very slowly and carefully at first, until you get used to the huge output.

If you take what would be an average hit, like you would on an Atlantis or similar device, the TVF4 will knock you on your butt. The difference is similar to that of taking a draw on a cigarette and a cigar.

But once you learn how to moderate your hits on the TVF4, you’ll discover that all the rave reviews are true; … the flavor is much better, and the clouds smoother. Just be careful at first with the draw!

  4. Yeah. My Ac9 is with Brent but when I receive it i’m going to give this wick a go with some boba’s. If what you say about this wick wciking better than SS is true. I shouldn’t have any problems. Not that I have had any vaping boba’s with SS.
