Welcome to a new year full of flavour and even more interesting concepts in order to lure the smoker away from the traditional cigarette and aim towards a healthier alternative.
I’ve been using the recently released Spirals Tank from SMOK plus their latest Guardian 40W kit over the Christmas holidays and it looks like 2017 is already set to be another bumper year for innovation & design.
So, while we were all enjoying the festive season and taking a well deserved break from work others were already hard at it on our behalf manufacturing the latest generation of vaping devices!
The spirals sub Ohm tank has been primarily manufactured for use with the mini mods given that it has a 22mm diameter and a 2ml capacity tank. That said there is no reason why it cannot be used on larger devices that support sub Ohm builds however, it may not be as aesthetically pleasing to the eye in this case.
As you would expect from a flavour chaser designed tank there is an overall reduction in height to minimise the distance from the coil head to the mouthpiece, a fully adjustable bottom airflow system with four inlets to maximise circulation, plus the inclusion of large diameter coils with ample wicking ports to increase saturation of the imported organic Japanese cotton for added taste.
So, let’s see what’s in the box and what you can expect for your money!

I have used a selection of E-Liquids from Five Fold Vapor and Dark Market, with varying VG/PG ratios to fully test the Spirals Tank. For retail customers based in the UK, these E-Liquids can now be purchased Here.
E-Liquids may contain Diacetyl (DA) and Acetyl Propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.
People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils.
Once Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.
You might find this range of calculators provided by Steam Engine particularly useful, so thank you to Lars for allowing me to include them in my reviews. These calculators are currently under development, and the information that they contain may change at any time without notice. Please read the How It Works section for a more in-depth understanding.
Make sure you are using the recommended batteries for this device, and remember, SAFETY FIRST.
Spirals Flavour Tank Operation
Unscrew the top cap just below the drip tip and fill the 2ml tank with your chosen E-Liquid filling it through either of the two slots taking care not to accidentally pour any into the central airflow tube.
Replace the top cap and allow the E-Liquid to soak into the Japanese organic cotton for a few minutes prior to use.
Replacement of the coil heads is achieved by unscrewing the base and turning the coil head itself in a counter clockwise motion. Replace the coil and turn it in a clockwise motion to secure it in place.
Also, make sure you have opened the four fully adjustable airflow intakes situated at the base of the tank to allow the air to circulate around the coils. Clearly, you will need to maximise the airflow around the coils at higher wattage settings.
If you have not already done so, attach the Spirals tank to your chosen device that supports very low resistance values and set it to the desired wattage recommend by SMOK for the type of coil you have inserted.
Building the RBA section
Inserting a new coil will require you to Install and position the pre-wrapped coil placing it between the two posts and wrapping the ends around the screws before tightening them.
Once the coil is in place, make sure it is fixed in the centre and lined up with the air hole.
Remove any excess wire to avoid the possibility of a short occurring making sure the coil is NOT TOUCHING THE BASE either.
Look for signs of any hot spots that may require adjusting with ceramic tweezers on the coil itself. Pulse it and look for an even glow across its surface area and adjust if necessary.
Check for potential shorts with your Ohm’s metre before adding the Japanese organic cotton which should be cut to the required length and cut at an angle, then add your juice to the cotton & coil (priming).
If all these checks are good, you should now be ready to fire your attached device with the RBA in place.
Also, for newcomers to building make sure you have filled the tank from the top after inserting the RBA section back into the tank. It sounds obvious but it can easily slip your mind!
It is advisable to use a device (preferably a regulated device) that can support this type of low Sub Ohm Vaping.
As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and as I ate too much pudding over the Christmas period it made a pleasant change to find that proof was in the flavour of the vape!
Yes, SMOK have delivered yet another quality piece of engineering that lives up to the hype and produces excellent flavour with both the pre-made coils and of course that little bit extra with the RBA section.
Overall looks are pleasing and the Spirals Tank will look good on any style of mini box mod for sure.
They have once again chosen to use an environmental friendly plastic material for the drip tip which is comfortable to use and works well with this style of tank when you consider the maximum recommended output is only 35W when using the 0.3Ω coil head.
SMOK have retained the top filling system which is a much cleaner and quicker way to refill the 2ml tank.
One small point here is to make sure you turn the stainless steel section immediately below the drip tip to avoid removing the drip tip instead. There is little room for error here and I would recommend a larger purchase area on future models.
With a 2ml tank you clearly do not wish to leave home without a spare bottle of your favourite juice! That said unless you are a heavy vapour or cloud chaser, which this tank is not designed for, it should last you all day with a couple of timely refills.
Even though the design of this tank is small the coil heads themselves have a large diameter allowing for an increase in the amount of organic cotton to be stored inside. Coupled with the large and plentiful juice ports I have not experienced any wicking issues but an abundance of flavour instead.
Replacing the coils is about as easy as it could possibly be and with precision machining a very smooth experience. And that includes all machined parts on this tank.
Once again, I would stress the airflow needs to be kept above the tank to minimise any possibility of leaking through the quad airflow holes at its base.
RRP £30-$35 so be sure to check out your local B&M store to try out this latest tank from SMOK.
