So if you were suitably impressed by the features and performance of the SMOK X PRO M80 Plus, as I was during the last review, here is a tank that was built to coincide with its release.
As elegant as it is innovative, the new Gimlet Cloud Chaser from SMOK TECH, featuring its revolutionary designed 0.2 ohms Ni200 replaceable temperature sensing pure nickel single vertical coil will help to set a new industry benchmark for others to follow all the way up to a maximum of 80 watts.
This tank, as the name suggests, is aimed at the cloud chasing enthusiast and requires VV/VW devices with enough power to fire a 0.2ohm coil in order to enjoy the full benefits that it provides.
Both in vapour production and flavour thanks to the included Japanese organic cotton, and, of course, has temperature sensing capabilities that should finally put an end to those dry hits when used in conjunction with the X PRO M80 Plus.
The GCT will support X1 coils A1 coils also which has the Adjustable Liquid Feed system included in resistances of 0.5 & 1.2ohms so this should allow you to vape at lower wattage settings should you wish to do so.
The Smoktech Gimlet Cloud Chaser Contents includes the following contents:
Colour: Stainless with Gold accents
1 x Smoktech Gimlet GCT Tank
1 x Replacement Glass tube
2 x Smoktech GCT Ni-200 coils (1x Pre-Installed & 1x Spare)
Dimensions: Width 22mm
Weight 60 grammes
Large Bore 510 Drip Tip
100% 304 Stainless Steel Construction
Replaceable 0.2 Sub Ohm Ni 200 Temperature sensing Vertical Coil (supports 20-80W output) Devices delivering 50W and above is my personal recommendation.
4-way Adjustable Airflow control system using four different sized Air Slots
4ml Glass Tank x2
Diameter 22mm x 77mm
Threading 510 Compatible
Please check the warranty period should there be any be included with the Gimlet Cloud Chaser Tank before purchasing as well. This may differ depending on your location, but I believe it to be 30 days from the date of purchase.
I have used a selection of two different E-juices with varying PG/VG mixtures from Space Jam and Mad Mikes, plus two devices for the purpose of testing the VCT during this review that includes the X Pro M80 Plus, and the Style Of Mojo Chi You Megan.
If you intend to use this range of E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.
For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.
E-Liquids may contain diacetyl (DA) and acetyl propionyl (AP) or other carcinogenic ingredients or disease-causing substances, so please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews.
People can also suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapour. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils.
Again, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly before purchase and use.
And never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery if one is required for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.
If you choose to use the GCT on a Mechanical device make sure you are using a good quality protected ICR battery like the IMR lithium manganese oxide batteries. Being less volatile in their makeup and, therefore, less likely to vent on you as well as having a good understanding of battery safety, more of which can be found online.
Thanks to its versatile design and improved airflow system over the VCT this new addition puts the Gimlet Cloud Chaser right up there with the best flavour and vapour producing tanks currently on the market today.
With the inclusion of the Replaceable 0.2 Sub Ohm Ni 200 Temperature sensing Vertical Coils, this tank is going to perform well and look great on both VV/VW devices and mechanical mods without the hassle of having to re-build your own coils if that happens to suit your preferred way of Sub Ohm Vaping. Before use make sure you add some E-Liquid to the organic cotton surrounding the coil.
The top of the tank has a slightly shallow well for holding the 510 drip tip firmly in place that allows for just a little bit of play but is in no way loose or noticeable when using it. However, that said, you will need to find replacement drip tips with shallower threading, should you wish to customise the Gimlet Cloud Chaser further so just be aware of this small point.
The Pyrex glass tank holds up to 4ml of E-liquid and is quickly filled by unscrewing the base that houses the airflow control ring and seated coil. Pour the E –liquid carefully inside avoiding the centre post and replace the base, it’s that simple. Likewise when the base unit is unscrewed, removing and replacing the coil requires you only to unscrew the seated coil and insert the new one making sure you do not over-tighten it.
The airflow control ring when turned in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction reveals four separate sized airflow slots, allowing you the option of a tighter draw with less vapour or a flat out cloud chaser that really does rock with the very best of them, and with the inclusion of Japanese cotton wrapped around the coil it gives you immense flavour too.
In its fully closed position, the air intake will still operate but to a far lesser degree representing vapour output more akin to that of an analogue cigarette, so apparently SMOK were not lying when they stated that they had increased the airflow with this model.
The Gimlet Cloud Chaser has turned out to be not only an excellent performer in both the vapour production and flavour reproduction categories, but a far more versatile tank system than I had originally thought, thanks to its ability to interchange coils and, therefore, cater to a wider audience, which for me is the smart way forward.
After all, not everyone wishes to vape at very low resistances or indeed can afford to do so without running up a huge monthly E-juice bill! So allowing higher resistance coils to be used (I used a 1.2ohm as well as the supplied 0.2ohm coils) creates greater flexibility and for the consumer, the GCT automatically becomes a far more useful viable option.
Its appearance is somewhat striking thanks to the well-placed gold accents that bring the tank alive. It also looks nice atop of a silver Mech, so don’t be fooled for one moment and think you need to use this tank solely with temperature sensing devices, not at all, the inclusion of the Ni 200 0.2ohm coils just allows you to do so avoiding dry or burnt hits.
Tank capacity is ample and lasted me almost a full day at 25 watts. However, at 80 watts start looking at hours rather than days, along with your bank balance!
Two small points to remember are 1: drip tip depth and 2: coil insertion (do not over tighten) should you be unlucky enough and find that the coil gets stuck inside the centre post and the post comes away from the housing it does re-seat so don’t panic. This is very unlikely to happen but worth mentioning anyway.
Both flavour and vapour production are on point so don’t expect any disappointments in either of these two areas. Vapour production comes into its own above 50W so be mindful when choosing this tank and make sure you have a device that can supply this type of output.
As for leaks, it appears that they have this covered as well, and I have not experienced any so far during this review. This is an area that causes a lot of frustration with vapers so it was nice to vape without feeling you E-liquid stuck to your hands and the device for once.
To summarise the Gimlet Cloud Chaser is in a nutshell well worth the money, and in a very appealing design too.
Expect the price to be around the £22.00 $18.00 mark.
