KangerTech RMT Rebuildable Mega Tank

With the festive season fast approaching KangerTech’s engineers have designed something just that little bit special and unique in its design that’s going to add a new approach to dripping making it an easier and far more pleasurable experience for many of us.

This is KangerTech’s first entry into the RBA/RTA market and rather than just following suit by looking at the current popular designs and creating something similar, the R&D team have wiped the slate clean and started afresh taking into account the very method of dripping itself.

Be under no illusions, the RMT is big, very big, but it’s also very impressive, with the inclusion of a 10ml bottle for your choice of E-juice to drip with, and a very spacious deck that will help both the new and experienced save time and effort when constructing a new build.

The design of the RMT’s packaging reflects the quality of the tank inside it. Professional, original, and very well built.

Just lift off the silver band with the silver highlighted RMT logo on it and slide open the compartment from the right-hand side using the attached black tab to do so. Inside you will see the housed RMT and the included user manual underneath it.

The outside of the box contains an image of the RMT itself on the front cover that is close to its actual size along with the Company logo (KangerTech) situated above the picture. Below it is the initials RMT Bracketed underneath the initials are the words (Rebuildable Mega Tank) On the left-hand side of the box you will find the phrase KangerTech Made in China with an age rating 18+, one of seven different trademarks.

The base of the box has a brief description of the product, its specifications, and KangerTecs address and website. Finally on the bottom front is an individual barcode sticker for your personal product.

Please be aware that this is a pre-production model sent to me by KangerTech for its first evaluation and review before its full production release so there may be slight changes if required to the final design. Also please be sure to check the warranty period should it be included with the final production model of this device before purchasing.

The new Authenticity code will apply to each new KangerTech product and include running changes for old models taking effect from late October 2014.

What’s new

Constructed from SUS304 Stainless steel Kanger has attempted not only to develop their first rebuildable tank for the vaping community but also introduce a more portable and easily managed version that contains your E-juice housed inside for convenience.

One of the main reasons for me partly shelving my RBA’s was a choice between added flavour and portability in my busy daily life. A well made and large enough clearomizer allowed me to travel to work with a full tank without the need for an additional bottle of E-Liquid to carry round with the risk of it breaking ( yes it has happened!) and finding the time to drip. The main disadvantage, of course, being the loss of flavour compared with that of a good quality RBA.

The engineers at Kanger have clearly noted this niche in the market when designing the RMT and have come up with a solution that works, and works extremely well in my opinion.

As I have already mentioned the size is larger than your average RBA as it includes the 10ml squeeze bottle inside and also attracts a lot of attention, at times not unwelcome!

The dimensions for the RMT are as follows:

Height: 100mm (not including the attached adjustable 510 connector)
Diameter: 30mm
Weight: 147.5g
Connection Type: 510
Airflow: 2x Air Valves
Capacity: 10ml
Material: SUS 304 Stainless Steel

I have used a selection of different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG, mixtures including 90% VG from Longhorn Vapor and a new range of juices from Gemini Vapors (reviewing here soon) using both single and dual coil setups with Organic cotton, in 0.6ohm & 1.2ohm configurations.

If you are already a supplier or intend to supply this range of E-Liquids, please make sure that they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.

REACH compliant

For EU countries, more information on this can be found here along with REACH’s partner agencies from around the globe.

If you are already a supplier or intend to supply these E-Liquids, please make sure they meet the current requirements set out by your countries regulatory bodies.

People can suffer from allergies to chemicals that may be present in the makeup of certain types of E-liquids or produced in their vapor. People can become sensitive to, or even allergic to Nickel or Titanium used in Temperature Controlled designed coils. So, please be aware of this and seek medical advice before using any of the products used in my reviews. Also, check with your E-liquid supplier or the equipment manufacturers directly prior to purchasing and use.

You might find this range of calculators provided by Steam Engine particularly useful, so thank you to Lars for allowing me to include them in my reviews. These calculators are currently under development, and the information that they contain may change at any time without notice. Please read the How It Works section for a more in-depth understanding. Also, never leave your device charging unattended, make sure you are using the recommended battery for your device, and always remember, SAFETY FIRST.

The RMT as you may have gathered by now is an original design concept from KangerTech so I’m going to start this part of the review from the top down as an overview to the main features and how it has performed over the last two weeks since its arrival.

The standard 510 drip tip carries a relatively wide bore and one seated O-ring, creating a secure fitting into the top cap itself with three circular rings at its base for decorative purposes.

It feels slightly wide but comfortable to use, an important consideration to make when you realise that this is the primary human interface to the tank. Cleary you have the option to use a design of your choice, and I have tried three of my own without detecting any problems with fitting them.

The top cap includes two seated O-rings and again the fitting is secure but not overly tight and has a large dome shaped interior.

The chamber wall includes two air valves and lifts off to allow easy access to the decking for building on to. This again is secured by the inclusion of two extra O-rings seated around the decks base adding to an overall feel of a well built and well constructed all stainless steel RBA.

The deck itself is very spacious and clearly very accessible for working on, housing the positive and negative posts in the centre with the triangular E-liquid port dispenser seated above. Attaching either a single or dual coil build is very easy to achieve with each of the posts having a Phillips screw on the top of each post for securing the coil/ coils in place.

Unscrewing the base of the chamber reveals the ingenious part of the RMT’s unique design as this is where the 10ml bottle for your E-juice is housed. You will notice that in the centre of the bottle extending from the base of the chamber is a long thin metal tube that feeds the E-liquid up to the dual port dispenser at the top seated above and between the positive and negative posts.

To fill simply unscrew the plastic bottle from the base of the chamber housing, fill it and replace it by screwing it back in making sure it is securely in place. (There is no need to over tighten it as this could damage the threading).

To access the squeezy bottle once it has been filled to drip your E-juice onto the coils and organic cotton, just slide the stainless steel outer casing with the KangerTech & RMT logo on it upwards to reveal the bottle inside. Apply equal pressure to the bottle with your fingers. By removing the top cap with the 510 drip tip still attached you can see the E juice coming out on either side of the dispenser.

When using a newly built coil for the first time, I tend to add E-juice manually onto both it and the organic cotton, after first checking the build on my Ohms reader and making sure the coil/coils are functioning correctly.

Slide the cover back down and if everything is working correctly attach the RMT to your device adjusting the 510 connector pin for a flush mount if necessary and enjoy the great flavour and vapour production the RMT produces.

The RMT is going to generate a lot of interest within the vaping community and I feel sure it will appeal to both experienced builders and novices alike who have been considering switching from pre-built coils to the advantages of owning and building their own RBA/RDA for the first time.

Vapour production is on par with most of the respected tanks I have personally used, but the flavour generated by the RMT is extremely impressive indeed and I was very surprised by this. I think this is partly due to the design of the chamber and the use of the two O-rings helping not only to avoid the possibility of leakage but also helping to retain the E-liquid within the large decking area itself.  After leaving the cotton soaked for one week it appeared to be still very moist and no dry or drying spots could be found on the cotton at all.

The quality in both its construction and innovative design characteristics sets the RMT apart from anything else currently available on the market today. The very ample deck size allows for clear access when mounting either a single, or dual coil configuration, along with ease of dripping your liquid directly onto the coil/coils and wicking material through the cleverly designed dual ports seated directly above them. Threading albeit minimal on this RBA is buttery smooth as you would expect from a well-constructed piece of SUS304 steel.

The chimney includes a large bore 510 drip tip helping to generate a vast amount of vapour, and with the inclusion of the large dome seated directly underneath it requires little effort to do so, which will be a benefit for the cloud enthusiasts out there I’m sure!

Heat dissipation from the mouthpiece and tank is minimal at 30w which is another positive for this design. I would have expected a lot more heat generation after three to four inhales in relatively quick succession with a dual coil build, but this has proven not to be the case with the RMT.

The positioning of the positive and negative posts is fine and includes a Philips locking screw seated on top of both. It would be nice to see the holes on each post placed slightly higher above the outside chamber wall making coil insertion just that little bit easier. This may be difficult due to the positioning of the liquid port dispensers being seated above and the risk of causing a short but worth mentioning anyway.

When using a single coil build make sure you have covered the decking area sufficiently with enough wicking material to capture the E-juice from both sides of the liquid port dispensers. This will allow you to make good use of the space provided and help to minimise the requirement of replenishing the wicking material with juice quite so often.

Also for people who may be new to rebuilding, make sure you have seated the two airflow valves directly in front of the coils for maximum air intake that will improve your vapour production.

Currently, there is no official release date or pricing for the Rebuildable Mega Tank, but Kanger has assured me that I will be notified about both and will update this review accordingly when that information is provided.

Finally, the RMT is going to surprise a lot of people as it did me when I tried it for the first time. Kanger is renowned for their Clearomizers and will now be playing a lead role in the design of RBA’s as I’m sure you’re going to agree.

If you happen to be a little unsure whether to switch from a pre-built coil design like the Aerotank Mega as an example, or opt for a new RBA and experience the advantages it has to offer you, I have another review that has landed on my desk from a Company in China giving you the choice of both in one tank!

So stay tuned for that one, be sure to keep safety in mind first and foremost, and above all, Vape Easy!

  1. It appears that essentially this is a bottom-feeding RBA?

Do the bottles look fairly standard or are they “special” bottles that have to be purchased from Kangertech?

I’d be very happy if you could post some pictures of the “innards”, if you’re at liberty to do so. Thanks.

    • Hi Eddie,
Yes the plastic bottle looked fairly standard. The one which arrived for the review had a KangerTech logo on it.
I will post some pictures when they arrive as a few changes are taking place at the moment including a new beauty ring for it.

The E juice feeds from below up into the top above the coils and drips down onto them. It really is a very clever and well thought out design. When you squeeze the bottle the juice drips out rather than trickle out if you see what I mean.
      Hope this helps.

  2. I would love to know when this is coming out, I thought about getting the sub tank but what I have really been looking into bottom feeder mods, they seem to be very expensive & I’m not sure what kind of atomizer/cartomizers they use.
This sounds like Kanger figured it all out put in in any easy to use unit with a huge tank…
Im In !!!!, please let us know when this is coming

  3. SO interesting… tho guessing all the Kanger powers that be, decided against it for now, huh…? LIVE LONG(er) & VAPE ON!
